Vilarinho da Furna was rebuilt 100 meters higher in the 1970s to avoid Lake Lindoso's rising waters. Every stone, structure, and artifact was painstakingly moved. During droughts, the original village emerges from the water—an underwater ghost of the version that still stands above.
